Parnell Expects To Be Ready

Bobby Parnell spoke to the New York media via a noon conference call today, explaining that he believes he will without question be ready for Opening Day.  You'll recall that Parnell's 2013 season was cut short by neck pain which ultimately lead to September surgery to repair a herniated disk.

Parnell also commented that he is back up to his playing weight, despite some earlier reports which he feels overstated his post-surgery weight loss. His next step will be to work on getting into playing shape to assume what he still believes is his role as the team's closer.

Nevertheless, expect the Mets to acquire a veteran relief option with some closing experience in case Parnell suffers a set back. If that's the case, it would be beneficial to hand the ball over to someone whose really pitched with the game on the line, as opposed to Vic Black and his 18 major league appearances.
