Saturday:
Despite reports late last week to the contrary, trade talks between the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles stalled once again this weekend. In an effort to acquire Baltimore's top pitching prospect, Eduardo Rodriguez, the Mets and Orioles discussed Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, and even Daniel Murphy. However, the talks never gained traction.
Sunday:
Amidst reports from Peter Gammons, MLB Trade Rumors and this weekend, Ken Rosenthal, that the Mets were the logical fit for free agent third baseman Stephen Drew, it was reported that Drew is not likely to don blue and orange next season because the team is unwilling to offer him more than a one year deal.
As if that news wasn't bad enough to end your weekend on, the Mets now believe that Ike Davis will report to camp with the team next month when spring training starts. This comes on the heals of unsuccessful trade talks with teams including the Orioles, Brewers and Pirates in which Sandy Alderson demanded a top pitching prospect in return.
Finally, the Mets are one again open to adding some catching depth behind rookie Travis d'Arnaud. However, there are not interested in a John Buck return despite what was described as a great relationship with d'Arnaud last season. Likely because Buck will not come cheap.
