Parnell And The Mets Avoid Arbitration

Over at mlbtradrumors.com the report is that Bobby Parnell has avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year $3.7 million contract. The total value of the contract can increase by $50k if he appears in 60 games. His projected earnings were $3.2 million. Parnell saved 22 games with a 2.16 ERA before going down with season ending neck surgery.

I was listening to him over on Mets hot stove and everything sounds positive. The neck is all healed up and he is back throwing and exercising. He was asked about his weight loss that he sustained after surgery and he attributed that to diet and exercise which is very common post operation. From the sounds of it he is back up to  fighting weight and champing at the bit to get back on the field. According to Parnell there is no doubt in his mind that he will be back where he was last year before the injury.

This is encouraging in that the contract got done with no court proceedings and that he is back healthy. Only time will tell when he gets back on that mound but in listening to him there was a sense or maturity and command of himself as a pitcher. A closer mind you which is good because the Mets need him.
