Matt Harvey to have Tommy John Surgery

According to SNY.tv and the Mets official Twitter account, Matt Harvey has elected to have Tommy John surgery on the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He will miss the entire 2014 major league baseball season but would be on track to be ready for spring training in 2015.

We have discussed this surgery and whether he should have it before here at Effing Mets. I, for one, think this is a good idea, an unselfish play on the part of Matt Harvey, and provides the organization with some much needed clarity going into an important offseason. I hope the Mets organization rewards Matt for his consideration when they get around to buying out his arbitration years.

For what is probably the best insight into Matt Harvey's injuries, turn to Will Carroll at Bleacher report: here and here.
